Macro Template

This is an deer iris biopsy, that was mounted on filter paper, to improve orientation and reduce wrinkling of the specimen. A video demonstrating the technique is included (in the video tab). Equipment: filter paper, a thin probe, and a specimen container with formalin. Step 1: cut small pieces out of the filter paper, and moisten it with saline. Step 2: Place the anterior side of the iris down on the filter paper. Then spread the specimen carefully with the probe. Make sure the specimen lies flat. Step 3: Place the iris and filter paper into the specimen container.

Micro Template

The specimen is well oriented and there is minimal wrinkling of the specimen. The ciliary body and pars plicata is well preserved on 9 o'clock of the specimen (2nd image). The anterior limiting area, stroma and pigmented posterior epithelium is visible.
